Backward poem: Haircut at 14

Tears leap from the floor
back into my eyes,
long tresses of hair
re-attach to my head
I step away from my friend
with the hair cutting shears,
I step back into my girlhood,
where I don’t have to worry
about how the world sees me. Eyes dry,
clear, full of hope.
